2nd Shooting at The Lodge, Torrey Pines for Betsy Blue!

The other weekend I had the honor and pleasure of 2nd shooting a wedding for my fabulous friend and amazing photographer: Betsy Blue Photography. The wedding was for Hans and Loraine, the cutest couple evar, at The Lodge in Torrey Pines and was a ridiculously awesome venue. I just love shooting with Betsy so much! Check out her perspective of the wedding on her blog.

Here is probably my favorite shot of the day which totally captures how laid back and sweet and cute Loraine is.

I took this shot from up on the bridal room's patio at the beginning of the ceremony. And yes, there were a TON of people on the golf course that I photoshopped out :)

Thanksgiving Challenge

148 days.  Starting on July 1st, 2009 I have tweeted/Facebooked something I am thankful for every day.  And for that, I am very thankful!  So for today, I am going to thank some of the people who were so influential in getting me to where I am right now.

  • Jeff & Erin Youngren for being some of my best friends, inspiring me, and being so open and willing to share their talent and knowledge with the photography community.
  • Julie Larsen for being a great friend and taking a chance to partner up with me to create Celebration Packages at the Omni Hotel San Diego.
  • Leonard Simpson for giving me the opportunity to shoot some amazing fashion shows and for putting me on the 2008 Top 10 Best Dressed List in San Diego and for introducing me to ...
  • Natalie Aguirre-Jenkins for hiring me at Louis Vuitton who to this day is still my best corporate client!  And for introducing me to ...
  • Maree Mossmer for her great ideas, support and introducing me to...
  • Natasha Reiss who has thrown some A-MAZING parties and has really helped kick-start everything for me.
Thank you all soooo much for getting me to where I am now!

What are you thankful for?  From today until the end of the year, I want to challenge all of YOU to write down something you're thankful for every day (that's 35 days).  And if you're a "tweeter", follow me at www.twitter.com/CelebrateReuben so I can keep up with what you're thankful for!

The Awesomeness That Is Me

Last week I told you a very personal story about my family and why photography means so much to me. This week I thought I'd share a little more about who I am (that's me as a kid to the right) and let you see the awesomeness that is my exterior, courtesy of La Vida Creations photography!

I am Reuben. I am devilishly handsome and charming (don't forget modest...haha) I live vicariously through myself. During the day I am a voracious reader of instruction manuals. At night I participate in full-contact origami.  Without "me", life is just aweso..

If there's anything else you'd like to know about me, post a question in the comments section and if I can get that information de-classified, I'll share it.

Now enjoy the photos!

Ramona Ranch Romance

The other day I was lucky enough to head up to a Ramona ranch with a bunch of other photographers and models for a good ol fashion photography shootout! Along with some great models, there was a "fake couple" there for us to shoot: Anna and JK.  I thought I'd post these pictures because they were so fun! :)

Capturing A Moment in Time: A Personal Story

I want to share a personal story with you that ties together why I am so excited about these new Celebration Packages we are offering. Recently, my Father was diagnosed with cancer.  When my Mother was only one, her Father died of cancer.  The photo to the right is the ONLY photo we have of him.  My Mom never knew her Dad except through this photo and what my Grandmother could tell through stories.

Perhaps this is why I have always been attracted to photography.  When I was a little boy, my cousin showed me his really cool photo gear and that sweet motor drive.  In college, I was the guy running around taking candids of the group and posting online albums for people to look at.  I think that part of what drives me is creating a moment, a memory, for other people.

Tomorrow, I am giving a client of mine a surprise thank-you present for being such an awesome family, friend, and client.  I've been waiting four LONG weeks for it to be custom-designed and painstakingly put together by hand.  Aside from the fact that I designed it (so you know it's gonna be awesome, right?) and that it just looks AMAZING is that I know that 50 years from now her grand-children and great grand-children will be able to look at this album and get a glimpse into her life.  Not a scripted "say cheese" moment.  But a peek into what one moment in time was like for her.

My goal for every Celebration Packages that I shoot  is to capture a memory, that magical moment.  A canvas print that you can show off to your friends and family today.  An album you can reminisce with your great grand-kids tomorrow.  I don't want your great grand-kids to shuffle through a cardboard box in their garage looking for the ONLY photo they have of you.  I want them to pass down to THEIR grand-children a worn-down box with a set of pristine albums that showcase a time in the life of their great grand-parents.  I want your friends to sit down at your home and shriek in excitement when they see a hardcover book with you on it and slowly thumb through each page, remembering how awesome you are and how stoked they are to be your friends.

Because what I want for you is a magical memory, all of my packages will come with credit towards either an album or a canvas print.  An artistic representation that tells a story.  A story about YOU that will resonate with your friends, your family, and with generations yet to come.
